Pygmy Date Palm Propagation
The Pygmy Date Palm propagates by seed and by division of suckers.
The seeds germinates easily and quickly in 2-3 months. You can propagate seeds in seed pans in a mixture of the moist soil, moist peat, sand and perlite. Before planting you can soak them in warm water for several days. After planting water well, place them in shaded area and cover the seed pans with plastic bags to prevent the moisture from escaping.
You can start new plants also by separating suckers, though the propagation of the Pygmy Date Palm is accomplished usually by seeds.
The best time for propagation of Phoenix Roebelenii by offsets is spring or summer. Separate suckers from the parent plant and pot the offsets. Be very careful, this miniature specimen is covered in sharp spines. After planting, water well and place the pot in a shaded area. Water it well until Phoenix Roebelenii is established.
